Most of us will have some experience of Hofstadter’s law – even if we have never heard of it. It’s the principle that ‘everything takes longer than you think’.
We had plans to get our signs up before the last Burton Regatta. As delay upon delay cropped up we began to wonder if it would ever happen. Now, well after a year after moving in they are finally in position!
Christadelphians believe Christ will return to the earth to set up the Kingdom of God. It could happen at any moment. His return was promised a long time ago – but the apostle Peter warned that when the time came, most would have stopped believing it would ever happen. In chapter 2 of Peter’s 2nd letter he says “knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” Just like today.
In the big scheme of things, waiting for signs that come a year late is irrelevant. Waiting for the return of Christ is a serious matter. He WILL return at any moment – and he will expect us to be ready for him. Please – don’t make the mistake of either thinking it will never happen, or thinking you have all the time in the world to prepare.
Christ IS coming – are you ready for him?
